Dazzles the ear canals
GamedailyXL.com | Rating: 8/10 ( HP-1 ) - 9/10 ( AC-1 )
"Razer's complete Barracuda Integrated Audio System, which consists of the AC-1 Gaming Audio Card ($199.99) and HP-1 Gaming Headphones ($129.99), dazzles the ear canals. Either component can be used separately with any other sound card or speaker system, but they were specifically designed to work in conjunction with each other to achieve the ultimate 3D gaming audio experience. For the price, it better, and fortunately for Razer it delivers on that claim. Given the steep price for this acoustic goodness, it's likely to only appeal to serious audiophiles. Even separately, both components are top performers in their respective categories. Depending on what you're fishing for, you can't go wrong landing either one of these Barracudas. "

Frag rates went up within hours
Mvktech.net
"Frag rates went up within hours of playing with the headphones, due to the fact we were able hear much more of whats going on at lower sound levels. Gamers who like FPS titles will fall in love with these headphones. Our experience with FPS games like Battlefield 2 Special Forces using these headphones was absolutely great. The 3D audio positioning works great giving the gamer a full surround effect with the capability to hear a 360 degree expanded audio environment. Helicopters can now be heard hovering around you in all directions giving you the sense of direction of that object without even laying eyes on it. Now you can figure out where the enemy is just by sound alone and all this can be done in the privacy of these headphones at extremely low volume levels."

It gave me the feeling that I was really there

Thinkcomputers.org | 10/10
"I first tested out the headphones on World Of Warcraft. The sound was really great and it gave me the feeling that I was really there. Well 2 hours and 4 battlegrounds later when I took the headphones off it felt no different from when I put them on. I hate it when headphones start to hurt your ears after about an hour. You can have these headphones on for a long amount of time and you will not feel any discomfort at all."

I would almost insist upon them.

GotFrag.com | 9/10
"The Razer Barracuda HP-1 Gaming headphones bring a level of quality to the mid-price market that was previously not available Not only would I recommend these headphones to anyone, but I would almost insist upon them."

I swear I could smell the gunpowder

OCIA.Net
"I played America's Army, a Counter Strike-type FPS sponsored by the US Army. It is a pretty good game, especially considering it is totally free. The programmers of this game purposely made gunfire sound very realistic, and sounds a little too realistic over the HP-1. I went to the M-16 qualification range, and the gunfire sounded so realistic I swear I could smell the gunpowder, flashbacks from my own United States Army experience in an earlier life."

Razer did one heck of a job
!
Modders-inc.com | 9/10
"Razer did one heck of a job bringing the 5.1 sound to the world of headphones and I thank them for that.As time goes on and as Razer tweak and improve the Barracuda HP's there will be no competition, well to tell you the truth there isn't any now. I can hardly wait to test them out with the Razer AC-1 Gaming Audio Card when it comes out."

I was truly stunned
!
Gamechronicles.com
"I immediately fired up some games I knew sounded great with my existing THX 7.1 surround system; namely, Call of Duty 2, DOOM 3, QUAKE 4, Far Cry, and Battlefield 2. I was truly stunned when these headphones started reproducing spatial effects that were easily on par with my 8-speaker system that surrounded my computer chair."

They bring a new level of immersion to games
Techfear.com

"We played World of Warcraft, Quake 4, F.E.A.R and Oblivion extensively during our evaluation. The Barracuda HP-1 is without a doubt one of the best sounding gaming-targeted headphones on the market. They bring a new level of immersion to games that can only be further enhanced by a quality sound card. Our Creative X-Fi stood up to the challenge, but we can only imagine how great these could sound when paired with the Barracuda AC-1 sound card."

"Don't be fooled guys, this headset alone is superb, to use a High Def Sound card would just increase its potential. The quality and craftsmanship is so well done, every time i pick these up i think "wow these are so solid." on to more important things, the sound quality while i am playing CS:S is phenomenal. To give you guys an idea, i would be sitting in lower b stairs, and a guy would be running down mid ramp and i can hear his feet treading through the sound the whole way, when he would walk into tunnels i'd strafe out and drop him right there, and this is only Counter-strike source. I still have to test these in other fps. Razer means serious business when it comes to gaming and these are true professional grade headset"

"there is some deception here because I thought they were USB only. The USB is for powering the amp. All in all these are great just the mic is a little low."

Simon Kjeldsen, Rated the product:

"I could talk about this headset for hours, really good overall quality. At first the comfort weren't the best, but after a week or two, it was perfect. So don't return it to the store, if it isn't very comfortable. Just give it some time. Ofcourse, as this is a gaming headset, I've tested it with various games. Mainly Quake 3. It delivered some impressive sound quality, I can hear my enemy 99% of the time, if they're above me, below me, behind me, it doesn't matter. Even though Quake 3 doesn't support surround sound, it still made a huge difference from my old AKG stereo hedphones. Anyway, it had to go through my music test too. I used everything from classical to hiphop, and metal. The sound quality was much better than I ever expected, everything came through really clear. I could even hear guitar riffs, I've never heard before, in some of my favorite songs. But! Yes, there is a but, and thats rare with a Razer product. The microphone just doesn't work properly. The only way it can catch my voice, is if I hold it in front of my mouth, which isn't very practical. And even there, it doesn't catch much sound, and people tell me I'm really hard to hear. I'd much rather use it as a seeddipper, than a microphone, and it will probably do the gardening job better. Comfort: 5/5 Gaming: 5/5 Music: 5/5 Microphone: 1/5 OVERALL: 4/5"
